Who We Are

On the rocky shores of Newfoundland,

Nestled among acres of blueberries, a SeaSpun dream took form. With a passion for natural fibers, and a journey to respect our history and cherish the hand crafted, we decided to create an inclusive and accessible environment to inspire others to join us on this journey!

Rin and Cara, a Newfoundlander and Ontarian, married almost two decades ago and together raise a family of five children and many fur babies. We came to this Yarn and Coffee House from very different backgrounds: Cara, a Midwife and Rin, an Electrical Technician. We both enjoy knitting, crochet, weaving, and spinning. We wanted to give back to our community, as we emerge from the isolation of COVID, by giving an opportunity to learn new skills and hobbies while providing the necessary support and tools.

We believe everyone, regardless of previous experience or access, should have the chance to explore the natural fibers and find their inner creative self. Whether it’s knitting, crochet, spinning, or weaving, we will guide you step by step along the way. We are not master knitters, weavers or spinners (yet), but we are here with you on this artistic journey to learn together, and will celebrate with you as you complete either your first finished project or advanced masterpieces!

We warmly invite you to gather together with great coffee and delicious desserts to, “Come sit for a yarn, and tell us who knit ya!”

Land Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge the land on which we gather as the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk, whose culture has been lost forever and can never be recovered. We also acknowledge the island of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) as the unceded, traditional territory of the Beothuk and the Mi'kmaq. We acknowledge Labrador as the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Innu of Nitassinan, the Inuit of Nunatsiavut, and the Inuit of NunatuKavut.

We recognize all First Peoples who were here before us, those who live with us now, and the seven generations to come. As First Peoples have done, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land and to respect the cultures, ceremonies, and traditions of all who call it home. As we open our hearts and minds to the past, we commit ourselves to working in a spirit of truth and reconciliation to make a better future for all.
